Saints look to kick on after surprise call off

Saints boss Ian Barrett is hoping to march his side into action tomorrow after a frustrating call-off at the weekend.

With United and opponents Linlithgow Rose stripped and ready to kick-off on Saturday just a few minutes before 3pm, the match officials decided on a particularly late postponement.

A sodden corner area of Barnetts Park was given as the reason for the refusal to kick off, despite both sides having been told the conditions were fine.

Barrett said: “When the ref arrived he checked the park and said that as long as there was no further rain then the game would go ahead.

“So we’re out, finished the warm-up, and just heading back into the dressing room for the final piece of preparation.

“The officials hadn’t left that corner the whole time and just walked past saying they were going back in and the game was off. Maybe warming up there in studs they felt it wasn’t playable.”

Instead Saints played a nine-a-side game amongst themselves on the park in preparation for another home game tomorow, this time against Penicuik Athletic.

“They’re one of the teams above us we must beat; these are the points we have to pick up,” said Barrett.

“If we can win all of our home games then we’ll be buying ourself safety.”

The manager is still without Danny Dobie who is waiting for a game to be played to serve the second of a two game suspension.
