School's tribute to Morag Hunter

Morag Hunter, principal teacher of modern languages, and one of the most valued, respected and long-serving members of staff at Kirkland High School, lost her fight against cancer four weeks ago.

The school was deeply saddened by her passing, and staff and pupils recently represented the Methil Brae secondary at a service of thanksgiving for Morag’s life.

Appropriately, the minister, Rev Arthur Christie, was a former pupil at Kirkland who knew Morag extremely well through her work with the church and her local community in Anstruther.

Head teacher Ronnie Ross described her as “a consummate professional” who worked tirelessly over many years in the best interest of thousands of young people and the Kirkland school community.

“Her dedication to teaching was apparent for all to see,” he added. “Everyone recognised the extra miles she always went to ensure her pupils got the best learning experience possible.

“Morag always worked with her pupils to get the best results and the modern languages department had an excellent attainment record under her visionary leadership. Her relationships with pupils, their families, and colleagues was second to none.”

Mr Ross continued: “We will always remember that particular smile and giggle she had, and will all miss her dearly.

“Morag was simply one of those people who lit up our day. We are all conscious of how much she will be missed by her loving family and her dear friends, and our thoughts remain with them as they come to terms with this loss.

Mr Ross said the move towards Levenmouth Academy would be marked with an annual award for modern languages “in honour of the long-standing, loyal commitment Morag had to the young people in the Levenmouth area”.

He added: “We all feel, including Morag’s lovely family, that this would be a fitting tribute to her life.”
