The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for many parts of Scotland, including Fife.

The yellow ‘be aware’ warning spells an end to one of the hottest weekends of the year.

Torrential rain and thunderstorms have been forecast for Tayside and Fife, Dumfries and Galloway, Strahtclyde and Lothian and Borders from 2pm on Tuesday.

The Met Office warned: “Heavy, thundery showers will break out on Tuesday afternoon over parts of northern England and Scotland.

“These will be slow moving, and whilst many places will miss the worst, they will bring some localised torrential downpours.

“The public should be aware of the possibility of surface water flooding and travel disruption.”

The warning comes hours after many parts of the country experienced temperatures of over 20 degrees celcius on Sunday.
