A New Year challenge with a half-century theme, combining fitness and charity, is being offered to people in Levenmouth and the East Neuk.
East Fife Youth Academy (EFYA) is launching a ‘5K in 50 days’ venture at the start of 2014, inviting adults to support a range of charities and EFYA itself, as well as doing something positive for themselves.
The mission is to walk, run or cycle five kilometres every day for 50 days, or five kilometres 50 times with a minimum of five times a week.
Participants will be raising money for EFYA and also a charity of their choice, with the totals gathered being divided down the middle for each cause.
Around 70 people have already signed up for the quest, which is due to be launched offically by EFYA at Bayview on Sunday, January 5.
“Anyone can take part, no matter what age, gender, ability or postcode,” said Lorna McAuley, head of EFYA.
“You can choose to do it alone or as a team.”
As well as the personal health and fitness benefit, she added, people could make an early start on any new year resolutions to get more active, while making a real contribtion to worthy charities and also their own community.
Entrants can do their exertions on a treadmill or an exercise bike, or get out and about in the open air, added Lorna.
