Our Maggie’s Centre in Kirkcaldy ended the year on a light-hearted note on Friday when its newly formed choir held an afternoon of carol singing with friends and family.
And some special visitors popped in to swell the ranks when four of the cast of ‘Cinderella’ the Alhambra Theatre in Dunfermline’s Christmas pantomime came along for a visit.
The visit marked a new working relationship between the Fife centre and the theatre which started off with a bucket collection being held at one of the performances in aid of the centre.
Others took place at the Adam Smith and Carnegie Theatres, all in aid of our Maggie’s Centre, and organised by the recently formed Maggie’s fundraising board.
The panto stars – Still Game actress Jane McCarry; Colin McCredie from River City and Taggart; Soraya, from Popstars: The Rivals; and James McKenzie from children’s television show Raven – all turned up in full pantomime costume to mingle with guests and join in the singing, after being given a tour of the centre.
Elspeth Salter, centre manager, said: “It was a wonderful afternoon with a magical atmosphere where everyone just had the chance to relax and enjoy the choir singing as well as joining in with some of the well-known carols.
“The choir, which is made up of centre users and staff here has grown since it was started up just six weeks ago, and now has around 19 singers, with more expressing an interest.
“It is led by volunteers Ella and Graeme Wilson and we were delighted to hear that it is to continue next year after a trial period up to Christmas.”
Tu Edwards, Maggie’s community fundraiser for Fife and Forth Valley, added: “It was a fantastic day and a big thanks to the panto start for coming along.
“Our new choir was wonderful and everyone being together and singing made it a really special day and a great way to start the Christmas holidays.”
