Vandals have targeted a nursery garden causing hundreds of pounds of damage to plants and garden ornaments.

The damage at Woodlands Nursery on Methilhaven Road was discovered by a janitor on Monday morning.

Planters had been overturned and broken, an ornamental bird bath smashed, noticeboards ripped off the wall and fences broken.

The vandals also accessed the roof and ripped off air vent covers.

Police told the Mail the damage was caused between 6.00 p.m. on Friday evening and 6.00 a.m. on Monday.

They asked for anyone with information to contact them immediately on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Clark Graham, head of the nursery centre, said it was too early to pinpoint an exact figure, but repair costs could be around £200.

Many of the children were upset about the state of the garden, which they use to learn about growth and wildlife.

“They have been talking about the ‘bad people’ who did this to their garden, and to them, it’s just completely senseless,” he said.

“Parents who have seen it are just totally shocked and can’t believe it.”

Mr Graham said there had been problems in the last few weeks with people going up on to the roof and locals had been asked to watch out for anyone acting suspiciously.
