The Kingdom of Fife Railway Preservation Society (KFRPS) has received a cash boost after councillors approved a funding request for over £5000.

The Society, based within Burnmill Industrial Estate, had submitted a report to the Levenmouth area committee for funding of £5969 to cover part of the cost of refurbishment of a newly acquired wooden coach and a locomotive unit, previously used at the Babcock yard in Rosyth.

KFRPS hopes that the new coach unit will allow them to expand the numbers of people who can enjoy a train ride at their open days.

The funding secured from the area committee budget will be added to £3529 of existing funds to cover the cost of refurbishing the coach and extending the yard and installing secure fencing.

Councillor Charles Haffey commented: “I live close to the yard, and hear the trains most weekends. There’s more than ever going on down there now and I certainly support this.”
