AN event showcasing Markinch is being held later this month.
An open day is being staged in the Town Hall on Saturday, April 20 to advertise, coordinate and raise the profile of all activities, groups and services available locally.
The event, which is free to both exhibitors and guests, has been organised by the recently-formed Markinch Community Trust, which has been working with other community groups and businesses. And it is being billed as an exciting opportunity for Markinch to highlight its existing assets and look at ways in which businesses and the community might work together to raise the town’s profile.
Trust spokesman, Mike Deeprose, said: “The trust would be pleased to discuss and help in any particular interest that community groups or businesses may have in participating.
“The main objective of the trust, which was set-up last year, is to encourage and promote community participation and a sense of community and business spirit.
“Last year’s Christmas lights switch on and family party were a great success, attracting over 300 local people.
The Open Day is targeted for the same success, seeking to market the event to attract a broad profile of Markinch’s community.”
The trust is developing a business directory for the town, and to this end the open day is also being seen as a source for gathering information.
On the basis of distributing the directory more widely and considering additional initiatives for business promotion, the trust would welcome sponsorship and also wants to hear from businesses which would like to be included.
“We hope that people will attend and support the event to which all are welcome,” added Mr Deeprose.
The open day takes place at the hall in Betson Street between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
