St Andrews assault witnesses sought

The attack happened at around 2.20am on Sunday (August 7) outside the Dervish takeaway on Bell Street.

The 20-year-old victim had been on a night out with friends and was leaving the Vic bar in St Mary’s Place when he was engaged in a conversation with an unknown male.

The situation escalated into an argument, from the man and his friends walked away, towards the takeway.

A short time later the suspect reappeared with several others and assaulted the victim, punching him in the head and body, before making off.

The young man sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital in Kirkcaldy for treatment.

Local officers are carrying out inquiries in an effort to trace the suspect and are now seeking the help from the public.

He is described as having a pale complexion, of slim build, aged between 18 and 20 years and around 5ft 4ins tall. He was wearing a baseball cap backwards, skinny jeans and a zipped hoodie.

Detective Sergeant Paula Warrender of Levenmouth CID said: “I want to hear from anyone who recognises the description of the assailant or who witnessed this violent attack.

“Similarly, anyone who had been within the Vic bar around the time of this incident and who has information relevant to our ongoing investigation is asked to contact police immediately.”
