ST ANDREWS has been chosen to host the Scottish premiere of Love Actually, the new film starring Hugh Grant

The screening next Wednesday at 8.45pm, in aid of the Rector's Charitable Fund of the University of St Andrews, will be accompanied by a preview showing at 5.30.

Love Actually is a new romantic comedy in the tradition of Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill and Bridget Jones's Diary.

Set in contemporary London in the run-up to Christmas, it tells one story which weaves together a spectacular number of love affairs - sometimes romantic, sometimes sad, sometimes stupid - all funny in their own way.

St Andrews is no stranger to film launches, with the world premiere of Chariots of Fire in the 1980s, and a number of student film festivals in recent years. The Love Actually Premiere sold out in less than an hour, but there are still tickets left for the preview, on sale at the New Picture House.

Ben Spiers, the screening's organiser, said: "We very much hope that everyone from the town will take the opportunity to enjoy this year's biggest British film.''
