The normally sleepy East Neuk burgh of St Monans woke to a shock this (Thursday) morning.
Overnight vandals had targeted the Braehead area with a white spray - at first thought to be paint.
Cars and properties bore the brunt of the damage.
One resident said: “At first it looked like somebody had just gone crazy with a can of spray paint but it’s thicker than that.
“It could be some sort of DIY filler, or even just cream... you’re not really inclined to taste it, just get rid of it!
“The rain meant it never had a chance to dry so it is washing off, hopefully it won’t have damaged any of the cars’ paintwork.”
Two weeks ago a vehicle on the Braehead was badly scratched, or ‘keyed’, causing hundreds of pounds of damage.
