Storm Henry could lead to further closures at Forth Road Bridge

Users of the bridge have been warned to expect disruption due to very strong winds throughout today (Monday) and overnight into Tuesday, February 2.

Already, drivers have been subject to restrictions this morning, with the bridge closed to high-sided vehicles, cars with trailers, caravans and motorcycles, while a road traffic accident on the southbound carriage has also led to delays.

Officials now say bridge users can expect that a full bridge closure is likely to be required later today.

Winds are forecast for this evening at speeds that would close the bridge, with the strongest winds expected between 9pm and midnight.

The winds are expected to continue into Tuesday morning, and if the weather does lead to a full closure, an inspection would be required before a re-opening.

Car drivers are advised to check the conditions before travel and adjust their travel plans as required.

Public transport is likely to be affected, with winds forecast in excess of the level at which buses would be permitted to cross from approximately 12 noon onwards.

The bridge is expected to be closed to cyclists and pedestrians throughout Monday and most of Tuesday, and remains closed to HGVs while repairs to the truss end links continue.
