Tricia Marwick MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes has expressed her delight after it was revealed that a young constituent of hers will be a Torchbearer for the Olympic Flame.
Sula Powell (15) from Windygates has been chosen to be one of the 8000 inspirational people who will carry the Olympic Flame as it journeys across the UK as part of the build-up to the 2012 London Olympic Games. Sula will carry the Olympic Flame in Cupar on Tuesday, June 12th.
A pupil at Bell Baxter High School in Cupar, Sula was chosen thanks to her tireless charity work which has seen her raise funds for Rock for Heroes, Maggie’s Fife and CHAS. Sula also arranged a charity show at the Rothes Halls in Glenrothes last year.
Mrs Marwick said: “I am thrilled that Sula has been chosen to carry the Olympic Flame. This is a fantastic honour for Sula and her family.
“I have met Sula and her mum, Lorraine, and gave her a guided tour of the Scottish Parliament last year. Sula is a lovely young lady with a beautiful heart. I cannot think of many other young people who give so much of themselves to help others.
“To be chosen to carry the Olympic Flame is a fitting tribute for all the charity work Sula has done in her short life so far. I am proud that a constituent of mine will be participating in this event and I know Sula is destined for great things in the future.”
