Take a Boxing Day leap at the East Neuk Dook

This festive season, why not chill by the shore on Boxing Day before taking a hurl into the sea at Anstruther for charity?

It’ll soon be time for the annual East Neuk Dook, in which 50 hardy souls will blow off the yuletide cobwebs and chase away the Christmas excesses with a bracing plunge into the water at Anstruther Harbour.

The action starts at 1pm on Monday, December 26 and there are fewer than 10 places left for anyone thinking of making the liquid leap.

Clad in souvenir T-shirts, courtesy of event sponsor The Bank in Anstruther, revellers will be raising money this year for Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland, with other local causes, like the Anstruther lifeboat, also set to benefit.

Principal organiser Kevin Corps will be back this year, along with lifeboatman and ex-Waid Academy FP rugby captain Barry Gourlay – the only two who have made the jump every year since it began in 2001.

The Bank is also laying on some hot snacks and entertainment for the participants, while the grateful organisers are assisted by an ever-reliable group of helpers – on dry land and in the water.

Kevin’s wife Fiona said there was still superb enthusiasm for the event and the backing of other regular leapers kept it going.

The variety of charities it helped also attracted different participants and fresh support, she added.
