Take a look at yourself and ask if you gave it your all

Saints boss Ian Barrett called on his players to have a look at themselves in the mirror following Saturday's hammering at Bonnyrigg.

United were beaten 7-0 by the league leaders and, while acknowledging there is a gulf between the clubs, Barrett said standards fell shockingly low.

And now the gaffer is calling for an immediate response when the club travels to Broxburn this weekend.

He said: “We didn’t turn up on Saturday.

Bonnyrigg are by far the best team we’ve faced but there’s no excuse for not matching their effort.

“They wanted it more than us and the scoreline could have been double figures.

“We’ve shown this season against Musselburgh and Kelty we can compete with the best teams, but it’s about attitude on the day and after Saturday a few players need to look at themselves in the mirror and ask if they gave their everything.”

Saints actually started the game pretty well and matched their title chasing hosts.

But once the goals started to flow, there was no stopping Bonnyrigg.

“It became one way traffic,” conceded the manager.

“I have players here who are fighting to get us out of the position we’re in but others just seem to be wanting the season to end so they can move on.”

Barrett, who expects to be without Ricky Patrick, Sam Buchan and Sean Murdoch on Saturday, wants a reaction from his side.

“It’s all about us having the right attitude,” he said.
