Retail giant Tesco has given an assurance that the decision to shelve plans for a new store in Leven will not affect the expansion of the Cupar outlet.
Fife Council bosses reacted with dismay this week to the announcement by Tesco that it would not now proceeding with the Leven supermarket due to a ‘significant change in customer shopping habits.’
Council leader, Councillor David Ross, said he was writing to Tesco chief executive Dave Lewis calling for a commitment to other projects in Fife, including the planned extension to the store in South Road.
A Tesco spokesperson told the Fife Herald: “We have reviewed our plans for new large store in Leven and taken the difficult decision not to proceed. We know that some will be disappointed by this decision.
“We’ll continue to work hard to serve local customers from our other stores in Fife. The decision in Leven is solely about that particular scheme and is not related to other proposals in Fife, including Cupar.”
