The Creative Martyrs - An Hour Long Sinister Wink

Voodoo Rooms (Venue 68)

There are some great gems to be found on the Free Fringe - and the Creative Martyrs are at the top of the list.

They’re doing two shows in two venues, and are well worth catching.

The Martyrs, Gustav and Jakob, have a slightly surreal, sinister look with their white painted faces and detached approach, but they’re also the warmest duo when it comes to interacting with an audience to create a hugely enjoyable hour of original music, and chat.

Whether you sit at the front or at the back you’ll end up involved - from firing a party popper to providing the beat to one of their catchy and subversive political ditties filled with wonderful lyrics courtesy of this hugely talented duo who, they claim, go back 83, making them slightly older than the Rolling Stones.

The Martyrs appear to come from a different age - it’s kinda hard to pinpoint which one though - but they know how to entertain with just a cello and ukulele, and their own wonderful stage presence.

No-one else could possibly end a set with a song about our impending doom, and have the entire audience humming along in harmony.

A gem of a show, and a delight to see and be part of. Go see them.
