First it was Chesney ‘Hoax’; then came ‘Prank’ Bruno, followed by ‘Trick’ Astley, Jean Claude ‘van Scam’ and Charlie ‘Gimmick’ ...
Yes, the elusive Christmas prankster has struck again!
And this time Cuparians are being promised that none other than model and TV personality Calum Best will be switching on the Christmas lights.
According to posters, the hearthrob son of footballing legend George Best will be in town on November 28.
However, since this is the sixth time in a row posters have appeared advertising the forthcoming visit of a celebrity, people are taking it with a pinch of salt.
“The joke’s wearing a bit thin now,” said one young Cupar mum.
“The first year everyone was fooled and there was quite a bitof excitement at the thought of the ‘one and only’ Chesney Hawkes visiting Cupar.
“By the second year people were beginning to have their suspicions.”
As yet the identity of the seasonal trickster remains a mystery but for many his or her antics have become a keenly-anticipated part of Cupar’s Christmas celebrations.
Over the years, the Fife Herald has attempted to make contact with each of the celebrities but only Chesney Hawkes was prepared to speak to us, sending a message of goodwill to the citizens of Cupar.
Frank Bruno didn’t see the funny side at all while the others didn’t return our calls.
We have also approached Calum Best via Facebook for a comment, but as we went to press he hadn’t responded.
