20mph speed limit to be trialled in Fife town centre

Fife Council is to trial a 20mph speed limit in St Andrews town centre.

The test is being carried out as part of the Spaces for People programme, which aims to make the streets of Fife safer for cyclists and pedestrians.

A similar trial is to be carried out in Cupar town centre.

It is expected that the trial in St Andrews will be implemented in late 2020/early 2021.

St Andrews councillor Jane Ann Liston said she was “very pleased” with the announcement.

She said: “It’s very encouraging that Fife Council has listened to the request of the community for this reduction in speed. As far as I know, there has been no dissent, with residents and business owners all supporting it.

“Slowing down traffic in the town centre which includes several residential locations, can only be beneficial to the people of St Andrews.”
