A police officer has been seriously injured after a crash on the A92 this afternoon.

Police have confirmed that a police vehicle which had stopped to help a driver had been hit by a transporter at around 1.40pm today.

Diversions were put in place between Cowdenbeath and Crossgates, and the seriously injured officer has been airlifted to hospital.

The westbound section of the road was initially closed, before it was later announced that the A92 had been shut both ways to allow the air ambulance to land.

A police Scotland spokesperson said: “The A92 is currently closed westbound, from Crossgates to Cowdenbeath due to a serious road crash between two vehicles.

“It involves a police vehicle.

“It happened at around 1.40pm today, diversions are in place, and motorists are asked to avoid the area.”
