Busy Kirkcaldy road set to re-open after six-month closure

A busy Kirkcaldy road is set to re-open after a six-month closure.

Traffic is expected to return to Dysart Road from November 30. Its closure ha sparked lengthy diversions which also saw bus services diverted.

The busy route was closed east of The Kyles and past Ravenscraig Park as Scottish Water launched a £3.2million investment to improve water quality and protect the local coastline.

That work involved the construction of a new storm overflow with a powered screen within the car park at Ravenscraig Park to also reduce sewer-related debris entering the beach area and Firth of Forth during periods of heavy rainfall.

Following the reopening of the road, work will continue within Ravenscraig car park along with some localised reinstatement until late December 2026.

Ethan Gillies Denning, senior project manager, said: "We are acutely aware of the impact that the closure of Dysart Road has had upon the local community and we would like to thank customers for their continued patience and understanding.

"Unfortunately, delivery of our major project has been impacted by the discovery during excavation of a high number of uncharted underground services.

"Due to the volume and position of these services, the design required revision to safely navigate around these unexpected assets, which delayed the delivery programme.

“Our site teams are doing everything they can to complete this work as safely and as quickly as possible. Once complete, this work will significantly reduce debris entering the Firth of Forth, supporting cleaner waterways and a healthier local environment for people and wildlife for years to come.”
