The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said firefighters had been tackling a “well developed” blaze at the commercial property and crews would “remain on scene for some time yet”.

A SFRS spokesman said: “People are asked to avoid the area and take alternative routes.

"Surrounding residents are asked to close windows and doors as a precautionary measure.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: Around 10.40pm on Tuesday, we received a report of a fire at St Michaels Inn, Leuchars.

“All roads are still closed surrounding the junction at the hotel. Motorists are advised to find alternative routes.

“The fire is not being treated as suspicious.”

Motorists are being advised of major disruption in the area with several roads closed as a result of the fire.

The northbound diversion for those travelling towards Dundee will be Guardbridge to Cupar via the A91, north from Cupar via the A913 and onto the A92. Southbound is the same route in reverse.

A spokesperson for Fife Council said: “Please allow yourself plenty extra time for travel. This is an ongoing situation and if anything changes we will update as soon as possible.”
