Double yellow lines to tackle parking problems in narrow Kirkcaldy street
Double yellow lines are to be added to a narrow street in Kirkcaldy to tackle access problems.
Councillors agreed to the measure on School Lane at this month’s meeting of Kirkcaldy area committee.
The partially residential street was the access road to the former Gunner Club, long demolished and whose site is now being turned into a new housing development.
A report to the committee said: “There is parking and it is a very narrow road. That obstructs access.

“Residents of School Lane choose to park their vehicles on this very narrow carriageway and drive over the footway to get past one another. Residents of the new housing development, Gunner Court, cannot get past without mounting the footway.”
Councillors agreed double yellow lines were the only solution to enable vehicles, such as bin lorries, to get access without problems.
Councillor Rod Cavanagh (Kirkcaldy East, SNP), said: “We have held a number of site meetings and explored pretty much all options,. We did secured the co-operation of residents along the street to try to mitigate the problems, but the geography of the street is such that when we consider vehicles such as bin lorries, realistically there is no other way of having unfettered access other than double yellow lines and removing possibility of parking in the street.” He added: “I am disappointed that these deficiencies were not picked up during the planning process - a matter of some regret this was not dealt with at the time.
“Double yellow lines is the only solution we can apply right now.”
