Fifers' opinions wanted on active travel plans

The Leven Programme is planning to improve active travel routes for cyclists, walkers and wheelers along some of the busier areas in Levenmouth.

The improvements being considered include: segregated walking and cycling – a segregated cycleway separates people walking, people on bikes and vehicles, giving each group their own space; traffic calmed, on-road cycle routes – cycles will share the road with vehicles but traffic calming will mean slower driving, making it safer to cycle; and shared use paths – spaces designed for walkers, wheelers and cycles to use.

The programme team wants to know what Levenmouth residents and businesses think of these proposals.

Cllr Ken Caldwell, Levenmouth Area Committee convener, welcomed the opportunity for residents to share their views: “This consultation is part of the wider Leven Programme, which aims to improve connectivity for all within the Levenmouth area. Segregated cycle routes will hopefully encourage more people to cycle or walk rather than using a car, which will reduce pollution, help to tackle climate change and improve local air quality. I encourage all Levenmouth residents to take part in this next phase of the consultation. Your views will play a key role in the final design.”

The Connectivity Project aims to improve the River Leven, its path network and green spaces, from Cameron Bridge to the Shorehead in Leven. Funding has been provided by Sustrans Places for Everyone Programme, which is funded by Transport Scotland.

As part of the consultation, pupils from Levenmouth Academy and St Agathas RC Primary School have also been invited to get involved. They are taking part in an interview challenge, where they are asked to interview family members about active travel in Levenmouth and present their findings in whatever way they want.
