Forth tunnel and Fife rail plans to be discussed at online meeting

Fifers are being given the chance to learn more about ambitious plans for rail in the Kingdom, including a tunnel under the Forth.

The session follows the publication of the Scottish Greens’ £22bn Rail for All programme, designed to transform the network.

The report’s authors, rail experts David Prescott and David Spaven, will be on hand to discuss specific proposals such as the St Andrews and Levenmouth rail links.

Attendees will be encouraged to have their say on the proposals and there will be breakout rooms for discussions on individual local projects.

MSP Mark Ruskell said: “In the face of a climate emergency we need to explore every option available to get people out of cars and onto low-carbon public transport.

“Scotland’s railways have been neglected for decades by governments of every political stripe and it’s long past time for that to change.

“Our Rail for All proposals are detailed, fully costed and would transform the network across the country.

“We want to make rail the first choice for travel by ensuring that it is reliable, affordable and sustainable.

“These meetings are a chance for you to share your views on the future of the railway in Fife and I am very much looking forward to a lively, energetic discussion on this important issue.”

Viewers will be able to discuss other topics such as the reopening of the Dunfermline - Alloa rail link and connecting Fife via a tunnel under the Forth.
