Levenmouth rail link: proposed locations for new train stations revealed

The four proposed locations for a new train station in Leven have been revealed.

Fifers are being asked to share their views on the Levenmouth Rail Link as part of a new consultation.

The website lists the four options proposed for the new Leven train station – adjacent to the heritage railway, west of Sainsburys, behind Sainsburys, or adjacent to the leisure centre.

The leisure centre option, the one closest to the town centre, would have a passenger drop-off point, a 90-space car park and a bus stop and turning circle on the west side of the river – with an option for alternative / additional parking on the east side of the river.

Details are provided about the four options and the website explains what work would need to be done to bring each site up to scratch.

The site notes that there is only one viable option for the Cameron Bridge site. Three were deemed to be too close to the distillery and had to be excluded.

A station is proposed to the south east of Windygates offering road access off the A915 and via a proposed footpath to be added – including over the bridge over railway to the south west of the location.

This will include a 300-space car park, bus stop and drop-off point.

It is expected that the selection of the preferred options for infrastructure and stations will be made in winter 2021, with the planning and consenting process for the stations coming the following summer. Main construction work is due to begin in 2022.
