Greener Kirkcaldy will be running Kirkcaldy Car-Free Week from March 1-5 to encourage people to walk and cycle for short journeys instead of driving - and to imagine what the Lang Toun could look like if less space was dedicated to cars.

The week will feature a number of events throughout the week, including Kirkcaldy Re-imagined - an online event about what can be achieved by re-planning neighbourhoods to create more traffic-free areas; Streetlife: Feetlife, an online event for children to draw their ideal version of their street and free bike checks and basic repairs at a Dr Bike session.

People are also invited to enter Greener Kirkcaldy’s latest competition, by submitting their ideas for what could be created if more areas in the town were traffic-free.

The winners can choose between a £30 Kirkcaldy Gift Card or a goody bag from Lang Toun Cycles.

Susan Jeynes, Active Travel Development Worker, said: “A lot of people in Kirkcaldy don’t own a car, yet a significant amount of public space in the town is dedicated to cars, through both roads and parking.

“Kirkcaldy Car-Free Week aims to spark people’s imagination about what the town could look like if some of these spaces were reallocated for people.

“ What could your neighbourhood look like if there were more traffic-free areas? What could be there instead – green spaces, wider pavements, playparks, outdoor seating for cafes? We’d love to hear your thoughts.”
