Kirkcaldy Area Committee agreed the proposals for a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) in the area at the meeting on Tuesday afternoon.

The move comes as the issue of parking on streets close to Victoria Hospital has been a concern for residents for a long time.

In 2016 a temporary Traffic Regulation Order was introduced to ban parking for a short time each day, but to provide residents with permits so they weren’t affected by the restrictions.

The planned TRO builds on the success of the temporary order which is currently in place and has been revised to bring in a maximum waiting period of two hours between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.

It includes the full length of Kelso Place and Melrose Crescent up to Thornhill Drive as well as the south part of Whyteman’s Brae and the west end of Chestnut Avenue.

Double yellow lines are also being brought in alongside the community hall on Poplar Crescent to improve access to the hall and to help keep that part of the junction free of parked cars.

Councillor David Ross asked if the hospital was making efforts to improve parking. Ian Smith, lead professional in traffic management for mid Fife, said there are traffic plans in place and that NHS Fife issues travel packs to new staff so they are aware of where to park and what the restrictions are.
