METHIL has been named the fourth worst place to visit in the UK by travel writer Tim Moore.
The only Scottish town to make the list, Methil joins Hartlepool in County Durham, Slough in Berkshire, Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales and Goole in Yorkshire in the bottom five.
Mr Moore wrote the ‘even worse than you thought’ list for renowned travel guide, Wanderlust.
Describing Methil, he said: “Never before had the chasm between vibrant past and bleak present yawned more hugely.
“To one side stood the abandoned power station, to the other a sprawl of pebble-dash and rubbled nothing.
“A town whose own residents had proposed twinning with Kosovo, Beirut and Uranus.”
But councillor Arthur Robertson called the decision unjustified and insisted Methil is on its way back.
