Two arrested after '˜serious disturbance' in St Andrews

Two men have been arrested following a serious disturbance in St Andrews which left two people in hospital.

It happened in the Abbey Street area of the town in the early hours of Saturday.

Police Scotland confirmed that two men, aged 16 and 20, had been arrested and a report sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Officers continue to follow a positive line of enquiry following the disturbance which left two men in hospital with serious, but not life threatening, facial injuries.

They were taken to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, for treatment.

Police said numerous calls had been received alerting them to a disturbance involving up to ten people in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Detective Chief Inspector John Anderson said: “We would like to reassure the local community that we are continuing to follow positive lines of enquiry to establish the involvement of others in this incident.’’
