Officers from HM Customs and Excise (HMRC) recovered one and a half tonnes of suspected illicit tobacco, £11,300 in cash, and large quantities of tobacco packaging during the operation yesterday (Tuesday).

The raid was on a private address in the Glenrothes area which officers believe was being used as an illegal tobacco packaging factory.

The two men, aged 31 and 27, have been charged with evading £4 million in excise duty and have been released pending further enquiries.

A report to the Procurator Fiscal will be submitted.
