Fife Shopmobility held a celebratory event to mark the 20th anniversary of the Glenrothes service last Friday.
The event was held in the Rothes Halls on Friday 27th November and attendees included former Board members and Kingdom Centre staff who were in post at the time of the service opening in Glenrothes in December 1995.
The service currently operates from four locations, two in Kirkcaldy, one in Glenrothes and one in Dunfermline.
The Glenrothes service continues to be the busiest with an average of thirty five customers per day using the equipment to visit the shopping centre. They have recently served their 120,000th customer.
They also operate a long term hire service, where clients can book a wheelchair for a period of up to four weeks.
The service is offered free with donations requested from users.
Volunteers also assist with the running of the services and Councillor Judy Hamilton said this was key to Shopmobility’s success.
“It’s such a good and important service,” she said.
“Health and safety legislation has changed so much over Shopmobility’s 20 years and the volunteers all keep up-to-date with ongoing training.
“They are all highly trained at what they do and that really does contribute to the services’s continued strength.”
