Community Inspector Joanne McEwan said: “This was a serious incident resulting in a man and a woman receiving significant injuries however I would like to reassure the public that we are pursuing a number of positive lines of inquiry.

“I recognise that incidents of this nature can cause concern within the community but I would like to stress that this was not a random attack and we have no reason to believe there is a risk to the wider community.

“In the meanwhile officers will be carrying out additional high visibility patrols and inquiries in the vicinity of Malcolm Road.”

Police have issued an appeal for anyone who was in the vicinity at the time of the incident, or who saw anyone acting suspiciously, to contact them by calling Glenrothes police on 101.
