Presenter Piers Morgan’s tweet read: “BREAKING: Just had a call from Downing Street. The 201-day Government boycott of @GMB is over & Health Secretary @MattHancock will be appearing on the show tomorrow morning...”

He also shared the news via his Instagram with an image of himself and co-presenter Susanna Reid standing outside the door of Number 10.

The news that the Government will no longer be boycotting the daytime news show comes just days after Downing Street announced that Dominic Cummings will not continue in his role as the Prime Ministers chief adviser.

Mr Hancock found himself under pressure last week outside the BBC studios when Good Morning Britain reporter, Nick Dixon, questioned why he hadn’t appeared on the show for almost 200 days, to which he responded that he was very busy but would go on “as soon as he possibly could” before refusing to answer anymore questions.

Last month, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said it was "pretty disgraceful" for UK Government ministers to refuse to appear on a breakfast TV show during the coronavirus pandemic, when she appeared on the show.

A minister has not appeared on the popular breakfast programme since April, with Mr Morgan previously accusing the Government of "cowardice" for not fielding members of the Cabinet for questioning.
