Vibrant Voices lineup released

A celebration of the versatility of the voice returns to town in October for the fifth year with and organiser have announced the bumper line-up including a rare performance by King Creosote on home turf.

One of Fifes greatest exports, the celebrated indie singer-songwriter King Creosote, makes a rare appearance in his homeland of Fife.  To date, he has released more than 40 albums, and is a Mercury Prize nominated artist. St Andrews Voices Festival – Scotland’s only vocal and choral festival begins on October 20 and showcases the voice in its many forms – spoken and sung.

From opera narrated by Scottish author, Janice Galloway to a sing-a-long Mary Poppins event, the festival promises to deliver for everyone.

Sonia Stevenson, artistic director said: “I am delighted to be marking five years of St Andrews Voices with another four days of vocal and choral music from some of the finest performers in the UK.

“With I Fagiolini as Artists in Residence, a new production of The Magic Flute with a difference, and King Creosote performing to name but a few of the events, we surely have a vibrant and colourful programme which I hope our audiences will enjoy experiencing, as much as I have enjoyed programming.”

A twist on The Magic Flute sees singers’ dialogue replaced by a specially commissioned narration for St Andrews Voices by Scottish author, Janice Galloway, who will also narrate the performance on October 23.

Mercury Prize nominated artist, King Creosote’s will be performing songs from his new album Astronaut Meets Appleman as well as older songs in the Byre Theatre at 9.30pm on October 21.

Linda Temple, Fife Council’s cultural partnerships events strategy manager said: “This unique event adds significant value to Fife’s strategic events portfolio and, to Scotland’s events calendar.

Leonie Bell, director, arts and engagement, Creative Scotland, said: “St Andrews Voices once again presents a fresh, imaginative and diverse programme of events for the 2016 festival. “Masterclasses for vocal ensembles will also offer Scotland’s talented young singers the opportunity to develop their singing skills.”
