Video: Fire crews remain at scene of industrial blaze in Fife

Firefighters are continuing to tackle a major blaze an industrial estate in Cupar.

They were called to Cupar Trading Estate around 10:20am this morning after reports of flames at a scrap metal yard.

Eyewitnesses spoke of hearing a large explosion before thick black smoke billowed high into the sky. It could be seen for miles around.

Nine appliances raced to the scene, along with specialist resources to bring it under control.

All buildings on the industrial estate were evacuated. There were no injuries.

Fire crews are likely to remain at the scene for some time.

A spokesman for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 10.23am to reports of a fire within a building at Cupar Trading Estate.“Operations Control has mobilised nine fire appliances, two height vehicles and a number of specialist resources to the scene where firefighters are working to extinguish the flames.

“No injuries have been reported and all surrounding buildings have been evacuated.

"Crews will remain in attendance for some time.”

Wendy Chamberlain, MP for north-east Fife, tweeted: “Pleased to hear no injuries reported at Cupar Trading Estate but clearly a damaging fire. Thanks to emergency services for their efforts.”
