Video: First look at Levenmouth Academy

The press were given the first sneak peak of the nearly-completed Levenmouth Academy today (Tuesday).

From the stunning views from the floor to ceiling windows in the libary, to the state-of-the-art science labs and drama studios, pupils attending the school from August will benefit from the best of facilities and opportunities.

Entering the school, you hit the main ‘street’ area, which is lined with lockers - one for every pupil at the school - and will soon be kitted out with seating to offer a place to socialise.

The brand new drama and music departments are within walking distance, with a staging area right next to the brand new assembly hall, offering the opportunity to put on shows and exhibitions.

Many of the walls, including the library, feature distincitive wall-art, while huge windows and sky-lights provide as much natural light as possible.

The brand new state-of-the-art facility is due to open in just a matter of weeks, but staff will be moving in at the end of this week ahead of the summer holiday period.

When that’s over, the school will play host to nearly 200 staff members, from teachers to cleaning staff, and has capacity for 1800 students, making it the second largest secondary school in Scotland.

The new £45 million facility was made possible thanks to funding from the Scottish Government, Scottish Futures Trust and Fife Council, and has been constructed by BAM Construction.

Ronnie Ross, current head at Kirkland High School and soon-to-be head at Levenmouth Academy, said the whole project had been a ‘huge team effort’, and gave thanks to the hard work of staff at BAM, Fife Council, the Scottish Government and Buckhaven and Kirkland High Schools.
