Video: Police raid houses in Kirkcaldy

Police raided addresses across Kirkcaldy this morning (Friday) targeting those involved in drugs and violent disorder.

Plain clothed and uniformed police, supported by a specialist unit of boiler-suited officers with battering rams, swooped on homes in Dunsire Street, Earn Road and Lismore Avenue in Kirkcaldy, as well as an address in Laurence Park, Kinglassie, as a result of ongoing investigations and the support of information received from the public.

It’s understood a number of people have been arrested.

Inspector Graeme Neill said today’s raids sent a firm message, both to those involved, and to the community as a whole that this type of criminal activity will not be accepted.

He said: “As part of the divisional violence reduction plan specialist units have today focused on four addresses in the area following intelligence received from the community.

“This sends out a clear message out that we are listening and that we are reacting to their concerns.”

Briefing officers ahead of the operation Local Area Commander Chief Inspector Stevie Hamilton said “Drugs and alcohol link directly into violence therefore we have to make sure we’re protecting the people of Kirkcaldy against violence. One victim of violence is one too many.”
