Vigilance warning to stop cable thefts

Fife Constabulary is urging both businesses and the public to be vigilant following a spate of cable thefts in the region.

In two recent cases in Glenrothes and Cowdenbeath, thieves set fires around live electrical cabling causing the electrical power supplying the area to fail.

Although backup systems quickly covered the loss of power, the damage that was caused is estimated to run into tens of thousands of pounds.

Community Safety Officer, Gary Kenhard said: “I would urge the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police immediately. The sites that have been targeted relate to electrical supply.
