Long service: MAINTENANCE engineer Walter Foreman from Burntisland has retired from CR Smith in Dunfermline after almost 30 years.

Walter (65), joined the window and door company in 1984, and over the years became a popular character around the factory. He was well-known for his encyclopedic general knowledge and always knew exactly where to find anything in the factory.

He said: “When I joined the company I never thought I would be here for such a long time. I am grateful to CR Smith for giving me the chance to make some very special friends.”

Retirement won’t mean boredom for Walter, as he is a keen pigeon fancier and races around 100 pigeons. He is secretary of the Kirkcaldy Pigeon Club and can often be found at his pigeon loft.

Walter’s retirement is being marked with a special celebration and presentation.

Gerard Eadie CBE, chairman, said: “Walter is a very special character. He has been at work every day, at 6.00 a.m. for 28 years. That commitment deserves praise and a huge thank-you from the whole team. We will miss Walter and wish him well in his retirement.”
