Community Sergeant Pat Turner is urging staff to be particularly aware when dealing with customers purchasing goods using Bank of England £20 notes.

He said: “We are aware of two recent incidents in north east Fife and the Levenmouth area where persons have entered a supermarket and purchased items of minimal value using a Bank of England £20 note.

“They have received change and left the premises before staff become aware that the note is counterfeit and therefore valueless.

“We would like to make retail staff aware that persons in the area are passing counterfeit notes and would ask that that they be particularly vigilant.”

Anyone with information regarding these incidents can contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
