Weekend closure on A92 for resurfacing work

The southbound section of the road, between the Bankhead and Redhouse roundabouts, is used by around 16,170 vehicles every day and now requires upgrading.

The £330,000 latest scheme is the fourth phase in improvements on the Thornton Bypass and follows on from works carried out in autumn last year.

The total spent on the stretch of the bypass since September is just over £1M.

The resurfacing will begin on tomorrow (Friday) at 7.30pm and is scheduled to be completed by 6.30am on Monday (February 22).

The upgrade requires specific weather conditions to be completed and should any adverse weather conditions arise this weekend, the resurfacing will be rescheduled.

The A92 southbound carriageway between Bankhead Roundabout and Redhouse Roundabout will be completely closed. During the southbound closure, all vehicles heading south will be diverted off the A92 at Bankhead Roundabout and then diverted via the B921, B922 and B981 which they can then re-join the A92 at Chapel.

Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “These works will repair a number of cracks, potholes and other issues which will improve the general condition and safety of the road for motorists.

“The resurfacing has been scheduled to minimise delays, however, we encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
