Barbara Mullin, wife of Kirkcaldy MP Roger is preparing to shave off her hair to help people suffering from cancer.
Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now will be the charities which will benefit directly from the funds raised from Mrs Mullin’s challenge which will take place later this month.
Barbara (66), who volunteers part-time in Roger’s office, said: “I have known many breast cancer patients in the past and some who are currently undergoing treatment for this disease. Not everyone survives and it is vital to keep supporting patients through their illness as well as furthering the research into a cure.”
Barbara’s brush with the barber will take place at Roger Mullin’s constituency office in Law’s Close, 343 High Street, Kirkcaldy on “Wear it Pink” Friday, October 23 at noon.
Les Phimister, “the barber at the harbour,” has volunteered his services as his contribution to the worthy cause.
A photographic record and DVD of ‘Baldy Babs’ will capture Barbara’s hair-raising experience, and she is currently busy searching for pink headgear to keep her warm over the winter months as well as pink clothes to wear on the day.
Barbara has been married to Roger for 45 years, and they have three daughters.
She has set up a fundraising page at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/BarbaraMullin and is inviting people to support her challenge.
Readers can also hand in cash donations to Roger Mullin’s office, where there will be donation boxes for both charities.
Commenting on his wife’s decision Roger said: “She is absolutely determined to go ahead with this and I have nothing but admiration for her brave gesture.”
