Woman dies following crash on A92 in which an eight year old boy was killed

Police have confirmed that the 36-year-old woman, who had been in a critical condition, has passed away in hospital.

The incident happened at around 2.55pm yesterday (Monday) on the A92, north of the Redhouse Roundabout between Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes.

A Ford Focus car was involved in a collision with an Iveco lorry resulting in the majority of the occupants of the car sustaining serious injuries.

An eight-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene, while a nine-year-old boy, who was also a passenger within the car, sustained serious injuries to his face and is being treated in hospital.

The driver of the lorry and a 36-year-old male passenger from the car were not injured.

Police closed the road for seven hours while they conducted their inquiries and they are appealing for any witnesses to the incident.

Anyone with information that can assist police with this ongoing investigation is asked to come forward.

Inspector Brenda Sinclair said: “Tragically this collision has resulted in the death of a young boy, while the driver and another child also sustained very serious injuries.

“We are still trying to establish exactly what happened and I would ask any motorists who were on the A92 on Monday afternoon and who witnessed this incident to contact police immediately.

“Similarly, anyone who with any further information relevant to this inquiry should also get in touch.”
