Here are a few words for aspiring authors – the 2014 Anstruther Writing Awards are open for entries.

Organised by Anstruther Improvements Association (AIA), all budding and published writers are invited to take part in the second annual event, with categories and prizes available for all ages.

AIA president Elizabeth Gordon explained this year’s judging panel included three successful writers, all with connections to the East Neuk – author and poet Andrew Greig, novelist Jennie Erdal, and award-winning children’s author Chae Strathie.

There are sections for primary and secondary school pupils, and adults.

Writers of all ages can submit a single entry on any theme and in any genre, as long as it is their own work and previously unpublished. Entry forms and further information are available from www.anstrutherimprovements.org.

Closing date for entries is September 30, while the winners will be announced on November 6 at a special event in the Dreel Halls, Anstruther.
