6. “a reminder … of these ties that bind us”
A three day state visit by the Macrons became a full on love-in with the couples reportedly getting on famously. US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron plant a tree watched by Trump's wife Melania and Macron's wife Brigitte on the grounds of the White House April 23, 2018. The tree, a gift from French President Macron, comes from Belleau Woods, near the Marne River in France, where in June 1918 US forces suffered 9,777 casualties. The tree would - apparently, be "a reminder … of these ties that bind us”" Despite the ceremony, the tree was quickly removed from the White House lawn and placed in quarantine. Which it never left. It reportedly died a few months later. Photo: JIM WATSON
7. Indestructable
