Local writers have been developing their playwriting skills at St Andrews Library over the past two weekends.

A dozen up and coming playwrights signed up for the two-day workshop, which was held on consecutive Saturdays.

The sessions were organised by the town’s Byre Writers Group. The group attracts writers from across Fife and Tayside into the town and aims to help them develop their work in the company of like-minded people.

The programme was led by Dundee-based theatre director, John Mitchell, and focused on key elements of play structure.

To help them turn theory into practice each writer was asked to bring along something that they have a strong connection to and base a new work on it, with feedback from the director and the other writers.

The workshop programme was funded by the St Andrews Community Trust; an organisation set up to distribute money generated by usage of the Town Crest of the Royal Burgh of St Andrews to groups and good causes in the area.
