One lucky Levenmouth teen is currently enjoying the opportunity to scope out Leven's brand new twin town ahead of the summer signing, thanks to the Leven Twinning Association and Leven Rotary Club.

The association was invited to identify and delegate a young musician from the area to join with young people from the Music School in Bruges, France, for a series of music workshops and performances to be held in the French town, which is close to the Bourdeaux region.

And 16-year-old Jed Gillies, an accomplished guitarist from Leven, was chosen to take up the offer.

Thanks to financial sponsorship from Leven Rotary Club, alongside funding raised by Jed, the association organised a week long visit to Bruges, with Jed leaving for Bruges at the weekend.

Jed attends St Andrews High School in Kirkcaldy where he is currently studying for his Highers.

Blair Denwette from the association said: “Jed is an extremely mature and motivated young man who will be a great ambassador for his peers, for the area, as well as for Levenmouth Twinning Association.

“As well as his music experience, his visit to Bruges will encourage him to become more aware of French culture and local cuisine as he will be staying with a family who are heavily involved with the music scene in Bruges.

“Needless to say, we are truly delighted to be able to report this young man’s venture at this early stage of development of the Levenmouth Twinning Association and we look forward to being able bring the news of Jed’s journey to readers of the East Fife Mail on his return.”
