What is The Nest about?

Set in Glasgow, The Nest follows the story of a wealthy couple, Dan and Emily, who seemingly have a perfect life - except that they cannot conceive a baby.

By happenstance, the couple meet Kaya, an 18-year-old from the wrong side of the tracks.

Kaya agrees to be a surrogate for their baby, but as tensions rise, the real question becomes how far one couple will go to have a child.

“Two sides of Glasgow collide when a teenage girl makes a pact with a wealthy couple. But can Dan and Emily trust this girl with their last chance to have a child?” the synopsis asks.

The BBC describes the TV show as an “emotional thriller about love, trust and the true cost of buying whatever you want”.

Who stars in The Nest?

Dan is played by Martin Compston, who you’ll most likely recognise from the BBC’s police drama Line of Duty as Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott.

Unlike his Londener character in Line of Duty, The Nest allows for Compston to use his native Scottish accent.

Compston has also starred in a variety of films and TV shows, such as Traces as Danny, In Plain Sight as Peter Manuel and Mary Queen of Scots as Lord Bothwell.

Sophie Rundle plays Dan’s wife Emily who has appeared in a whole host of acclaimed dramas over the years.

Most notably, Rundle played Ann Walker, Anne Lister’s Wife, in Gentleman Jack, PC Budd’s estranged wife Vicky in Bodyguard and Ada Shelby in Peaky Blinders.

Kaya is played by newcomer Mirren Mack. You may recognise Mack as the aesexual Florence in Netflix’s comedy-drama Sex Education, but other than that, The Nest is Mack’s first foray onto the silver screen.

Also included in the line-up is James Harkness (The Victim, Wild Rose), who plays social worker James.
