Adam aiming to make history with GT title win

Jonny Adam is hoping to win his second consecutive British GT title at Donington Park this weekend.

This time last year the same venue hosted the season finale and his current team-mate Derek Johnston romped away to a stunning race win, while a fifth-place finish alongside former racing partner Andrew Howard meant he and Adam claimed the championship crown.

This time round it’s Johnston and Adam gunning for the title in the #17 TF Sport Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 – and Adam could be in line to make history in more ways than one if time repeats itself.

If he and Johnston can overturn the 11.5pt deficit in the final two-hour race he would become the first driver ever to retain the title in the senior class.

A win would also see him match the current record of 11 GT3 career victories.

With so much at stake the pair are leaving nothing to chance in their preparations for the decider at the famous Donington Park.

“We are in a fortunate position because I’ve been over this territory before and understand the pressure that comes with it,” explained Adam.

“We’ve put in place a meticulous plan to make sure we have all the bases covered in the build-up and so far it’s gone pretty smoothly.

“We’ve got good data from last year and we’ll have plenty of time in the simulator this week so there are plenty of positives in our favour.”

A combination of local knowledge and proven performance could also be key factors according to the flying Fifer.

“Derek lives just a few miles away from Donington and he knows this circuit like the back of his hand, plus he’ll have lots of support there on the day which will make for a great atmosphere in the pit garage,” Jonny added.

“This is also the third year an Aston Martin V12 Vantage has been in contention for the title, which just shows how competitive the car is.

“Overall it’s great for the championship and the fans to have three different crews and three different manufacturers going into the final round with a chance of winning the title.

“That makes it a tougher task for us, but as we saw last year anything can happen on the final day of the season and hopefully we can get the little bit of luck that we need to claim the big prize.”
